Paperback Verified download. Has useful information, but doesn't provide the kind of information you really need to understand how multimedia actually works. It's very elementary, and more of a survey of various software packages to play with. I would go somewhere else if you're looking for a bigger picture. Of course this book is now seriously outdated, but if you are tempted to pick it up cheap, I'd recommend against it, because it was outdated and full of useless filler even when it was published in Outdated information from previous editions was left to pile up, so this book is more of a history book than a description of the state of the art at the time.
Other info belongs in other textbooks. For example, the description of how the Internet works IP addresses and such isn't relevant to multimedia production.
There are also a bunch of sidebars that are supposed to be entertaining or deep. I found most of them to be boring and self-indulgent. Verified download. This is a great text and as close to up-to-date as you are going to get in the tech world.
You will find helpful tools online to add to what you read and it includes great links in the text. The ebook does not have the physical book's page numbers, and that sucks. This is is the stupidest thing this publisher has designed in the e-book. When taking a college course, this makes it impossible to figure out which pages professor is requiring to read. A little too simple for anyone with experience but it is a good reference book for people in the trade. One person found this helpful. Making It Work Ninth Edition is well-written and clear.
It makes for a good starting point, when I'm working on my lectures. I especially like the "Lab Projects" and the quizzes at the end of each chapter. I just wish the answers to the quizzes were also included in the book. The "First Person" asides are useful at times, but could probably be skipped at others. See all 28 reviews.
