Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared off the secluded island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger family. There was no corpse, no witnesses. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (eBook): Larsson, Stieg: The disappearance forty years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in.

It's about the disappearance forty years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is popular for a great reason - it's excellent. I've consumed hundreds, if not thousands of crime novels over the past forty years, and this is one of the best. I like it because it was intricate. Details were not spared. When one of the characters furnishes an apartment with IKEA furniture, we get to read exactly what she bought. When someone puts on a disguise, we get the entire description. That satisfied me very much. The narrative and the crime were imaginative, creepy, and wholly believable. A very, very good book. I love books where I miss something. I won't tell you what I missed because it's a spoiler for all of it, but I can hardly wait for the second book to come off my holds list.

Would likely be better read in Swedish, I detect problems in the translation. The story line is excellent but the author will drag you along through often unnecessary descriptions and asides since he is writing the long game for a trilogy and he is getting you ready for the next two books.

The title character may be one of the best ever developed for fiction but is painfully slow to develop as we must try to accept that Blomkvist is the main character.

The clue is in the title and like most Swedish crime novels this is going to be a very dark trip. Swedes must be some of the nastiest people on the planet as I have read a lot of their crime fiction and they are a violent brood with not too thinly repressed Nazi tendencies. Carl Michael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander star in this story and I presume Larson, who died after completing the trilogy, employs these main characters in all three fables I have not read the other two: He is a detective and she is a punky, leather-jacketed rebel who becomes his very capable assistant and lover.

Blomkvist and Salander get the job of solving the disappearance and probable death of a niece of a Swedish industrialist in this novel. Murder mysteries fall outside of my favorite reading fare, still I can say that this work entertained me well enough.

I love this book! The first pages were boring but once you power through those pages, it gets much better and more suspenseful.

This is easily one of my favourite books of all time. A brick of a book, I read it in no time at all. It is rich in detail; which may not appeal to everyone, but it had so many elements that I loved that the detail just served to better paint the picture. Murder mystery, police procedural, political commentary, twisted love story, abusive relationships Respect and trust. Both elements have to be there. And it has to be mutual.

You can have respect for someone, but if you don't have trust, the friendship will crumble. On the other hand, never let anyone who has insulted you get away with it. Sexual Content: Instances of gratuitous rape, mentions of rape, and other sexual situations. Some sex, and one explicitly graphic scene. Some murder and graphic violence. I was a little hesitant in reading the first few chapters of the book for several different reasons. I was not sure whether I would like this book. The size of the book was a tad bit longer than my average book. And I have been way too many books which have lead girl characters, so it got kinda monotonous.

This book took away all the doubts and started to become a book that was actually likable as I dived into it. The first few chapters would make you think that this was a book that is gonna be revolving around this weird girl named Lisbeth Salander but Mikael Blomkvist takes the stage midway and keeps the story interesting till the very end. But I could only know that he was not winning. This is where I thought I was not going to finish this book and thought that I was going to put the book down.

The first eighty pages or so were filled with things that have to do with financials and other problems that he comes across in his job that you kind of just flip through the pages but are not exactly engrossed. I read in Goodreads where some people felt that the book was way too descriptive of unnecessary scenes and situations. I think it was actually so.

The book spans of about pages in paperback and could have been a lot more gripping if the story was shortened a bit. There are an awful lot of characters that are not very memorable and have insignificant roles to play in the story. It gets confusing after a point to recollect when a character is being talked about.

The criminal investigation is so perfectly written where the crime is viewed in literally all angles and perspectives of different people present on the day of the crime. The way with which the investigation moves ahead is simply cool. This book is a good book when you forego the unwanted description of scenes and the buck load of characters that come and go.

I have the remaining books from the trilogy and would start those before this year for sure. Kindle Edition Verified download. After a very long time, I finished a book within one sitting. The book started slow with a long explanation as to why Blomkvist was indicted for libel but thankfully I read on wanting to see where the lead the story and am I glad that I did that.

Blomkvist is hired by Vanger to solve a 40 year old case of a missing girl and from that point on the book becomes unputdownable. Salander is a heroine as unlike as any character that I have read so far, making the book more interesting.

This is definitely one of those books where plot wins big time and even if the author had added another pages of fluff you would want to read through them just to find out what happens in the end.

I was very glad to find out that the book was made into a movie so now you know what I would be watching next Does this book require a good review to make an impact on the market? No, since it is already super successful, not dependent on good reviews to boost sales. The book is gripping and thrilling, involving a troubled journalists getting into unravelling a murder mystery in a business family.

Reading it in kindle format is pleasing. I am glad I did not bother to download a hard copy. Where does one keep these books, after reading them once?

My book shelves are already bursting with my little ones picture books. I love to read mystery books during long commutes and lifeless summer afternoons. Such books fill my time well and give me satisfaction of whiling my time fruitfully. So this book can be divided into two parts. First pages where you might get bored and think what's the point of all this. Keep calm and get past those pages and once the story about the girl starts you will be glued to the story.

NOT But the sunburn was worth it and I promptly bought his other two books. Movie was great, but as usual, the book is better.

The world lost one great author. I'm really surprised I liked the whole series as much as I did. Once I started, I thought this isn't for me, but it pulled me in. Excellent story, hard to put down. Loved the character developement, and at the end of the book I was wanting more.

This is a nice read, if one is not too sensitive. Entertaining and written well. Great book would read it a gain any time And would tell others it was great … Show more Show less.
