Andrew Lane Books and Book Reviews | LoveReading

Im not sure I care for the direction the story line for Sherlock and Virginia are going but I will definitely finish the series to see how it ends. Apr 05, Barbara rated it liked it. Un'avventura assai movimentata tra pirati, morti improvvise, personaggi inquietanti. L'amicizia rappresenta un valore fondante sulla base del quale ruota il racconto. Very little in the way of deduction from Sherlock.

Young Sherlock tre. Not the eccentric Sherlock I like, but an ok read. Feb 09, Suzanne rated it really liked it. Another great book in this series.

Sherlock is abducted, travels to China, is attacked by pirates, makes new friends, and solves a mystery that prevents a war. What more could you need? Aug 10, Erin rated it really liked it.

Good book the cover on mine did not look like this. I love how the pieces get filled in and are accurate to Sherlock 'S life. Snake Bite.

Oct 22, Padraig rated it it was amazing.

SHERLOCKIAN STORY SUMMARIES

Also, though it may not seem very important at first, the stories of Sherlock Holmes and of Doctor Who are things which are attractive to both children and adults, and are things which we grow up with — integral parts of our formative years. Naturally, there are also many points of difference between Holmes and the Doctor; Holmes, for example, does not regenerate, and the Doctor does not play the violin, but the many points in common, and their comparably high profile and enduring fame, tend to attract attention and the differences tend to be obscured.

Perhaps the most well known are through actors playing both parts. D On the other side of the coin we have Tom Baker, a famous Doctor Who actor who has also played Holmes. Baker, apart from being the longest running Doctor ever and still being involved in audio recording of Doctor Who novelisations, also played Sherlock Holmes for The Hound of the Baskervilles in a four part mini-series for the BBC Parts such as Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Who attract television and ilm actors in the same was as Hamlet and King Lear attract stage actors so it is not surprising that out of the many capable actors who have taken up these roles some have taken up both.

The other noted connections can easily be explained through the chance intersection of personal interests of authors and the fortunate ability for the Doctor to travel in time, with Victorian England being a remarkably popular time to visit.

Naturally, there are no direct connections between Holmes and the Doctor in the content of the stories, but there are possible connections where the authors writing Holmes-derived stories, also write in the world of Doctor Who. I Simpliied Versions Simpliied versions of the original stories are normally contracted by publishers rather than being original concepts developed by a specific author.

Because the material these writers work on is not their own choice I do not examine these works. I can ind no connection between Gerald Frow and Doctor Who. Again, there is no obvious connection with Doctor Who. I can ind no connection between Shane Peacock and Doctor Who. A clue left by Crowe takes Holmes, Matty and Stone to Edinburgh, and Holmes spots a familiar face watching him on the journey up, and loses Stone.

While searching the papers for further clues from Crowe, Holmes reads about the activities of the Black Reavers, and a spate of sightings of the walking dead. Before they can get to Crowe, he and Matty are captured. After escaping with Stone, they find the Crowes, and learn of their adversaries' involvement in the massacre of Native Americans at Fort Lyon.

An ambush at Crowe's cottage leads to the group being split up, and Holmes and Virginia are captured by the living dead men and find themselves reunited with their friends in the lair of the Black Reavers. Holmes must solve a murder to secure their release.

After their return home, Holmes finds himself aboard the Gloria Scott bound for China. He still doesn't recall how he came to be aboard the ship.

After weathering a tropical storm, the ship stops in Sumatra, where it picks up the veiled and gloved Dutchman, Jacobus Arrhenius.

En route to Shanghai, they are attacked by pirates. In Shanghai, Holmes is rescued from robbers by Cameron Mackenzie, son of a shipping agent, and has dinner at Mackenzie's house with the officers of the American warship Monocacy. TheGloria Scott's cook dies, apparently of a snake bite, and Cameron's father is killed the same way. He is met in Galway by Mycroft.

Mycroft is in Ireland to investigate the claims of Ambrose Albano, a spirit medium, who is staying at Cloon Ard Castle, where they will also be guests.

The castle is owned by Sir Shadrach Quintillan, a former slave in the Caribbean, knighted for saving the life of Prince Alfred. They discover that representatives of a number of governments are there, and that Albano's claimed ability to communicate with recently deceased spies is to be sold to the highest bidder. Holmes meets Quintillan's daughter, who tells him about the beast that is said to come out of the sea to carry off livestock in the environs of the castle.

Albano disappears during an abduction attempt, and Amyus and Virginia Crowe arrive at the castle.

Another example of spiritual powers is given, and a body appears in an impossible location. Holmes and Crowe come face to face with an old adversary.

Matty accompanies him, with his barge. Holmes becomes interested in a case of stolen body parts, regarding which Dodgson has been interviewed by the police, and exploring outside the city, he discovers a strange house, and receives warnings of a creature made od stitched together body parts in the woods.
